Race Report
June 19, 2005 (Father's Day) - Week 8
180 riders registered on Fathers day with a Regional
going on in New Hampshire is not bad at all. With near
perfect racing weather the action was pretty good on
the track and, even though the crowd was somewhat mellow,
they cheered when they had to. The gate dropped on the
first of 49 motos exactly on time and was followed by
four main events. The 16 – 29 Open class, always
the talk of the day, proved to be hair raising to say
the least. After we whittled down the 12 riders to the
final 8 who would make the main event, a nasty five-rider
pile would end any challenge for the top spot pretty
early. Out of the gate it was Steve Oldham with the
early lead but the pack was tight behind him. Into the
turn they flew and suddenly it was carnage. Matt Markie,
Will Nadwairski, Randy Greco, Mike Siegrist and one
more went down. Oldham grabbed the T/C Cycle hole shot
award then cruised to the finish line for the win. Pete
Lorenzo was second and Brian Adamaitis was third. Eventually
all got up and walked it off.
6 year old expert Colin Vincent won the 6 ex/5 novice
class. Casey Tanner captured the win in 7 ex. Zack O’Neil
and Steve Ferrigno traded wins though the motos but
it was Ferrigno winning the 8 ex main. Twisted’s
Josh Thimmish was the 9 ex winner and Jacob Enriquez
did the same in 11 ex. The 12 ex class belonged to KBBMX’s
Adam Hulse who we heard broke his foot riding trails
later this week. Anthony Delvento was the winner in
13 ex. The always-competitive 14 expert class had three
different winners in the motos as Dylan Hickey, Jon
Barna and Chris Sunbury all managed to get some first
place moto points. In the main it was all Chris Sunbury.
Allen Currier was again the dominant rider in 15 ex
while Will Nadwairski came out on top in 16 ex. After
not racing for a couple of years, Derrick McCormack
showed up and won 17 ex. Matt Markie was the top dog
in 18-21 ex while the 35 & over group was won by
Mike Gage.
Novice racing is always exciting to watch and it sure
was this day. Danny Batista, who loves to sky the R/C
Hobbies Step-Down, won the 9 nov class. The 11 Novice
action was dominated by the yellow uniform of Ryan Sambells-Greco.
The 13 year old Novice class was humbled by the riding
of Staats Allie Couch, who was perfect racing the boys.
Zack McCready, finally showing up for the first time
in 2005 easily won 15 nov. Many other nov classes were
combined with the experts.
Rookie action went as follows: 5 & under Dalton
Belmonte, Former Rider of the Week Devon Ferris, sponsored
by Tactical Arms won 6 Rookie; Trevor Fox won 7 Rookie;
The Fusco’s Used Auto Parts sponsored Chris Pannullo
won 8 Rookie; Matt Mitchell won the 9 yr old class;
10 yr old Kody Berg was perfect and the same for 11
yr old South Valley Auto sponsored Jared Marchell and
12 yr old Anthony Reilly who is sponsored by Schweiger
Tile & Flooring. The 13 yr old gang saw Chris Mann
holding off a determined Charlie Buonocore. Shayne Tullock
won the main in 14 Rookie and Rob Zuffellato was the
top gun in his 15 yr old rookie class. Josh Brown again
won 16 Rookie and Rick Hiser, in his first race here
won 17 & over.
Jessica Maher easily won the 8 yr old Girls class as
did Twisted’s Alissa Thimmish in 10-11 Girls.
New York’s Bethany Beckwith won 14-15 Girls and
it was Samantha Sunbury winning 16 & over.
Cruiser racing had Zack O’Neil winning a closely
contested 9 & Under group; Nick Ferrigno won 10-11
cr; 14-15 went to Chris Sunbury; 22-29’s winner
was Kevin Clark and Randy Greco was the top guy in 35-39.
Stuart McCready won the 40-44 year old shoot-out and
Butch Feitel held off Dan Krouse for the win in 45-49.
Sarah Shatkyvich beat Lori Markie in Ladies Cruiser
action.
All in all it was a fun day and most went home happy.
We thank everyone for sharing their Father’s Day
